Singapore Entry and SG Arrival Card

Singapore Entry Guide 2026: Visa Checks, SG Arrival Card and Airport Tips

Singapore is one of Asia’s easiest cities to navigate, but every traveller should complete the correct pre-arrival checks. The two points most often confused are the entry visa and the Singapore Arrival Card. They are separate requirements, and completing one does not replace the other.

First, check whether you need an entry visa

Singapore’s visa requirement depends on the travel document you hold. Use the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) visa checker rather than relying on an old social-media post or a friend’s previous trip. A visa, when required, is permission to travel to Singapore and seek entry; it does not guarantee admission or determine the final period of stay.

What is the SG Arrival Card?

The SG Arrival Card, commonly called the SGAC, is an electronic arrival-information and health-declaration submission. It is not a visa. ICA states that submission is free through its official online service or the MyICA mobile application.

Most travellers must submit it before arriving. The main published exceptions include travellers who remain in transit without seeking immigration clearance and certain Singapore residents entering through the land checkpoints.

When should you submit it?

Submit the SGAC within the three days before arrival, including the day you arrive. For example, if your arrival is on a Friday, the permitted submission window begins on Wednesday. Do not submit too early, and do not pay an unofficial website to complete a form that ICA provides free of charge.

Information to prepare

  • Passport and personal details
  • Arrival date and transport information
  • Accommodation address in Singapore
  • Recent travel history when requested
  • A valid email address for acknowledgements and the electronic visit pass
  • Health-declaration information required at the time of submission

Check every detail before submitting. A spelling error in the passport number or travel date can create an unnecessary delay.

Pre-departure checklist

  • Passport with sufficient validity for the journey
  • Entry visa if your travel document requires one
  • SG Arrival Card acknowledgement
  • Confirmed onward or return journey
  • Accommodation details
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the visit
  • Travel insurance and any relevant health documents

At immigration

Present your passport or travel document and answer questions clearly. Your period of stay is determined by the visit pass issued at entry, not by the validity period of an entry visa. Foreign visitors are generally notified of their electronic visit pass by email, so make sure the address supplied in the SGAC is accurate and accessible.

Make the first day easy

Save your hotel address offline, organise mobile data before leaving the airport and choose an official transport option. Singapore’s public transport is efficient, but a long flight can make complicated transfers feel harder than expected. Keep the first evening flexible and begin major sightseeing after a proper rest.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating the SG Arrival Card as an entry visa
  • Submitting through a paid lookalike website
  • Entering an email address that you cannot access
  • Assuming a visa guarantees admission or a fixed stay
  • Forgetting to check rules again close to departure

Planning a Singapore city break? Vista Journeys can help organise the flights, accommodation and a practical itinerary, while all immigration decisions remain with ICA.
